Far Away is a surrealist drama by Caryl Churchill in which nothing is to be trusted and the promise of violence broods. Written by the celebrated author of Top Girls and Cloud Nine, this innovative play consists of three brief scenes in which a young girl witnesses a bloody slaughter, concocts hats for a mass execution, and ultimately seeks refuge from an unnamed global conflict.

Far Away was a part of The Montreal Theater Gym, a workshop for emerging directors originally created to stimulate and strengthen Montreal theater artists. Stacey Christodoulou, the workshop’s mentor, guided myself, Virginia Preston, and Sarah Galea-Davis in our first theater directing pursuits.
